Check in at Los Angeles Airport (LAX). Depart for Fiji Islands. An English-speaking AV Travel tour leader will guide and escort traveler(s) throughout the trip.
Fly across the Pacific Ocean.
Arrive at Nadi International Airport. Our local guide will welcome you with a “Bula” smile and a Shell Lei necklace. We’ll venture into Nadi’s heartland, through the beautiful Sabeto Valley to the Garden of the Sleeping Giant, which houses the largest and most varied orchid collection in Fiji. Move on to Viseisei Village, the legendary landing site of the first Fijians, where you will be guided through the village and handicraft displays. The Vuda Lookout affords a 360-degree bird’s eye view of the West’s mountain ranges, Nadi Bay. Enjoy a free afternoon. Dinner at your hotel. (L/D)
In the morning, enjoy a Combo Cruise, a fantastic combination cruise exploring the outer Mamanuca Islands and ashore the South Sea Island. On South Sea Island, enjoy great snorkeling and water sports or take the semi-submersible ride to see the spectacular coral and fish life. You’ll enjoy a tasty barbecue lunch. Everyone gathers around rustic tables at the open-air restaurant to watch Fijian performances and enjoy a delicious buffet lunch with salads, beer, wine and soft drinks. You’ll also get to see many of the islands including Treasure, Beachcomber, Mana, Castaway, Malolo and Likuliku. Back to your hotel for dinner. (B/L/D)
Arrive in Auckland (also known as “the City of Sails“). It is New Zealand’s center of commerce and industry. Tour the city center, along Karangahape Road with its chequered past & eclectic vibe, past fashionable Ponsonby & over the Auckland Harbour bridge, enjoying views of the Hauraki Gulf & city skyline. Visit the Viaduct Harbour & Auckland’s famous Queen street before continuing to the Auckland Domain – the city’s oldest park, situated on a 62,000-year-old volcano with fabulous views of the harbor. Depart Auckland and travel through the Waikato region, known for its Waitomo Caves. Enjoy a guided tour through this world-famous cave formation. Guided since the late 1880s, this is the original, iconic New Zealand attraction. You will be amazed by a sea of starry lights created by millions of glow worms. They hunt for prey by using their alluring blue glow and a long thread of sticky web.
Departing Waitomo, relax on board the coach to Taupo. Lake Taupo is the largest lake in the Southern Hemisphere at 619 sq kilometers & lies in a series of volcanic craters. Highlights include the Aratiatia Rapids when at mid-day, the gates of this dam on the Waikato River are opened and provide a spectacular view of rapids filling the valley and the famous Huka Falls, another of the wonders of the Waikato River. Drive to Rotoura. Visit Te Puia – the New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute, home of the world famous Pohutu geyser. See Maori carving, flax garment making and a life-size replica of a traditional Maori village. Visit Whakarewarewa – also known as the Living Maori Village, the largest conservation area of the Maori culture. (B/L/D)
Travel along Rotorua’s lakeside area to the beautiful Government Gardens, past Rotorua’s Tudor Towers alongside the geothermal steam pools – famous for their therapeutic qualities. Drive to Matamata, Enjoy a guided tour of a visit to Hobbiton Movie set, where you can step into the lush pastures of the Shire, as featured in The Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit trilogies.
Back to Auckland. While we’re in Auckland, visit the Sky Tower, an observation and telecommunications tower at a height of 328 metres (1,076 ft). It is the tallest freestanding structure in the Southern Hemisphere. (B/L/D)
Venture to Melbourne, the heart of Australia’s classic south. Visit Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium, one of the city’s major attractions. Melbourne has compelling appeals in its gardens, its history, its character and its charm. Visit Queen Victoria Market. The vibrant, cosmopolitan atmosphere of this historic site has endeared the Market to Melbourne for 130 years. (L/D)
Drive to the Dandenong Ranges, which offer some of the most magnificent countryside in Victoria. Recapture the romance and charm of the bygone days of steam as you enjoy a ride on Puffing Billy. Built in 1900, Puffing Billy is Australia’s oldest steam railway.
